Community Volunteers

Complete the Volunteer Application form on this webpage. Hard copies of the form are also available at the receptionist desk of the Administration Building (5044 Mayfield Road) - call 216-691-2000 for an appointment.

Hard copy applications should be submitted to the appropriate building principal. Online forms are routed appropriately for you.

Your application will be reviewed by the building principal and/or central office staff. If approved, BCI (Bureau of Criminal Investigation) and FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) background checks (fingerprinting) are required. If you have had a background check completed within the last five (5) years, it is still valid. If it was completed by the SEL Schools, we will have copies of it. If it was completed elsewhere, you will need to provide us with hard copies of both the BCI and FBI reports.

If you do not have a valid background check, Debbie Rinella in our Human Resources Department will contact you to schedule one at no cost to you (rinellad@selschools.org or 216-691-2009). 

The background check will only be scheduled after the Community Volunteer Application is submitted and approved by the building principal and/or central office staff. 

You will be contacted by the principal or SEL Schools designee once your background check has cleared and a placement has been identified.  

Yes, board policies 3120.09 and 4120.09 outline volunteer guidelines. The guidelines say:

• Volunteers must be approved by the principal or central office.
• Volunteers must work under the direct supervision of the principal or supervising staff member.
• Volunteers may not be assigned to relieve supervising staff of their responsibilities.
• Volunteers may not deal directly with parent concerns but should refer all parents to the supervising staff member.
• Volunteers may not receive payment in any form for their services.
• Volunteers may not discipline students.

Applications for the new school year will be accepted beginning the first full week of school for that year. Applications may be submitted throughout the year.
