District Announces Director of Curriculum & Instruction
The district is excited to announce Michael Janatovich as the new Director of Curriculum & Instruction pending Board of Education approval at the March 17 BOE meeting. Janatovich replaces Rae Bastock, who retired in January of 2026.
Janatovich is a K-12 educational leader currently serving as Principal of Independence High School in Independence, Ohio. With more than two decades in education as a teacher, coach, and administrator, he is known for strengthening academic programs, improving student achievement, and implementing systems that support the success of all students. Under his leadership, schools have expanded Advanced Placement opportunities, strengthened curriculum alignment, and built strong systems of support for students and staff.
Janatovich previously served as principal at Chagrin Falls High School and Cuyahoga Heights Schools and held leadership roles in Aurora City Schools. He holds superintendent and principal licensure and is currently completing his Doctorate of Education at The University of Findlay.
He lives in Northeast Ohio with his wife, Christina, and their two children, Abigail (12) and Gavin (10).
Janatovich will begin his duties on August 3, 2026.
