What is Tech Prep?

At Excel TECC, students are learning math, English, and science along with job skills. However, these core subjects are related directly to the students' career choice. By making these subjects relevant to the students' career interest, their interest in the core subject matter explodes. Students are ready to think through and solve problems similar to those they will encounter in the work place.

The program is a joint effort between Excel TECC, Cuyahoga Community College, Lakeland Community College, and local industry. Committees made up of representatives from each of these bodies met to decide exactly what the students need to learn and how well they need to know each individual competency to succeed.

Locations

The office of Excel TECC is housed at Mayfield High School. Each participating district houses different programs available through Excel TECC.

For example, the Exercise Science and Sports Rehabilitation (ESSR) program is based at Brush High School whereas the Culinary Arts program is based at Beachwood High School. Students interested in Performing Arts attend the program at Chagrin Falls High School and those interested in Biotechnology study at Cuyahoga Community College. The program is truly a joint effort collaboration of the participating districts.
